Could anyone tell me how to get the background in more contrast

This is a piece I did, based off of a prompt in a daily creating group that I am a member of on Facebook. The theme was Polka Dots (If the title wasn't obvious). Looking forward to trying out DoodleAddicts!

This is my illustration of the Mad Hatter, based on the Tim Burton interpretation; it was created for a recent blog post. Everything was drawn by hand on white cardstock, using illustration pens, except for the background (which was created by scanning a specific craft paper pattern). I sketched this a few years back and I finally got to edit it on my tablet! I hope you like my Digitized Butterfly!

This was the very first mermaid illustration that I've created for my business called Dream Pigment. I ran a small print run of this image and have sold this at comic book conventions and art events.
